Loch Ness Loch Ness, 1997:
Seeing that in all rights, this is just a lake - although picturesque - it's amazing that it's probably one of Scotland's most photographed attractions. We all know why this is so, and despite scientific evidence suggestiong otherwise, thousands of people continue to flock to Loch Ness every year in hopes of catching a glimpse of "Nessie" - the Loch ness monster.

Still, and even to me, this wasn't "just a lake". Loch Ness, to me, embodied Scotland: every picture that I had in my mind before flying across the Atlantic from chilly Nova Scotia (re: New Scotland). It was full of damp, warm, greenness; it had an ancient, and crumbling castle overlooking its shores (the storied Urquhart Castle); most of all - it had an erie "character" about it. We hit a day when a light fog blew across the choppy gray waters, and this only emphasized, rather than detracted, from out experience. Damned if we didn't think we saw Nessie at least 12 times that day.
