Warning: this, and the following images in this gallery graphically depict a Beluga whale hunt I witnessed in September of 2002. Whilst these pictures represent a very real part of every day life in Nunavut, some people may not wish to view it pictorally.

Debbie Iqaluk stands at ready with her rifle while Silas Ulayurluk peers over the edge of the small boat for a better view of the wounded whale, which is now in dangerously shallow waters and really has little hope of escape. The red gasoline can now acts as a bobber which gives away the whales every movement.
